Battle News in Arakan on Wednesday 11 March 2020

On 11 March 2020, fierce clashes broke out in Mont Than Pyin, Pyaing Tine and the areas surrounding the strategic hilltop between the Arakan Army and the columns of the Myanmar Army which came to reinforce the Mee-Wa hilltop outpost. In addition, there were also battles in Ponnagyun and Kyauk-Taw townships.

The Myanmar Army fired at our Arakan Army forces with artillery shells and launched airstrikes with fighter jets and military helicopters for the whole day as well as the Burmese battalions occasionally attacked us with the shelling of multiple rocket launchers (MRLs).

As a result of the explosion of artillery shells and Thermobaric Bombs in Mont Than Pyin and Pyaing Tine villages by launching increased airstrikes and shelling heavy multiple rocket launchers (MRLs) of the Myanmar Army, some civilian houses were burnt down. Some women were injured and killed. The Myanmar Army deliberately shot artillery to villages because they not only have horrendous mindsets and racial hatred but also suffered heavy losses.

In these two-day battles on 10 and 11 March 2020, the Arakan Army captured 30 Burmese soldiers from the Light Infantry Battalion No.7 based in Phayagyi, Bago Region, under the command of the 77th Light Infantry Division of Myanmar Army including LIB No.7 commander Lieutenant-Colonel Thet Naing Oo, a Medical Officer Captain rank and another Captain. More than 20 Burmese soldiers were killed. We are now trying to capture other escaped enemies in the area.

The Arakan Army was able to completely destroy and defeat the troops of the Light Infantry Battalion No.7 amid heavily shelling of multiple rocket launchers (MRLs) and launching of increased airstrikes.
