12 March 2020 Announcement of two critically wounded Burmese Prisoners of War to be immediately released
During two days of fierce clashes in the surrounding area close to Mont Than Pyin village in Kyauktaw Township, the Arakan Army captured thirty-six soldiers of the Myanmar Army including battalion commander Lieutenant-Colonel Thet Naing Oo, Capt. Kaung Htet Lwin, Capt. Ye Lin Soe (Medical Officer), Capt. Myo Zaw Htay and Capt. Shine Htet Soe from the Light Infantry Battalion No.7 based in Phayagyi, Bago Region, under the command of the 77th Light Infantry Division. Among them two are critically injured. Although they have been received all the treatments available with us, they still need special surgery and specialized medical attention. It has become an urgent for us to release the two critically injured. For this, the mother organization of those prisoners of war and the NLD government officials should work as mediators to facilitate their release. We have given our phone numbers and email address to this effect to ensure their safe release in a secure place at a secure hour at the earliest. Without taking any political advantages but holding on international laws for the protection of prisoners of war and humanitarian principles of the peoples of Arakan, this statement has been published with purely good will in order to release those POWs in urgent care.
